About Stacey

I am a qualified Nutritionist and Personal Trainer with a GCertScTech (Human Nutrition) and National Certificate in Fitness.  But more importantly than this, I have grazed on the not so greener pastures of poor diet and fitness.

Have a look at the picture to the right, that's me at the age of 10 years old...At 28 years old I still had the same physique - smaller extremities and a big pot tummy.  I had basically accepted that this is what my shape was supposed to be and there was no way I could change it.  This was a depressing acceptance.  This shape as a child also made me feel uncomfortable in my ballet and gymnastics classes, I simply felt as though I didn't belong there.

My diet was very high in table sugar, processed carbohydrates, saturated and trans-fats, additives and alcohol and it was combined with a sedentary lifestyle which over the course of my child and teenhood played havoc on my biochemistry. This produced some serious mood swings, depression and central obesity.  I also had bad skin and liver and digestive pain.  Not only that, walking 20 minutes was an effort causing fatigue.  Continuing on this path would have certainly lead to type-2 diabetes, a fatty liver and seriously deteriorating mental state. 

I am also a recovering binge eater and have used food for most of my life in the same way a drug addict or alcholic would self medicate.

After 10 years of 'trying' I finally got serious after listening to some powerful messages by international motivator Tony Robbins.  I got help, got real about food and ended up losing 25kg.  My mood swings became more manageable and moderate, all pain disappeared and energy, hair and skin improved greatly.  I left my world of advertising and sales and re-trained so I could share with you the benefits of a healthy diet and have been doing so since 2007.  I am a Novice Figure Competitor, and also enjoy yoga, dancing, mountain biking, beach volleyball and kayaking...all things I never dreamed I would ever do comfortably.

What I am NOT is a rake thin office dwelling carrot stick eating 'expert' and I'm not a bolshy personal trainer who chomps at the bit to bark orders (unless you want me to).

Working and Writing
  • Currently working on the Summer 2010/11 Belly Busters program to make it EVEN BETTER and more successful for you!!
  • Working with many of you on the Winter Nutrition program - you're all doing SO well!!
  • Guest speaker for the Hamilton Parent Centre 'Moving & Munching' course, in the 'Munching' component, I take new mums through the ins and outs of introducing solids.  Anyone can participate, contact the Parent Centre to find out more. 
  • Producing fortnightly columns for the Waikato Times Wednesday supplement - Tempo
  • Contributing weekly to Lisa's GoFigure website
  • And if that wasn't enough, I'm also the web admin for Hospotrade.  I know this has nothing to do with nutrition & fitness at all, but hey, feel free to pick my brain on web stuff while I'm training you!
And of course ... Play!!

Big Day Out, weddings, birthdays, massages, catching up with friends, brunching (my favourite weekend meal!) reading, playing on facebook and those gorgeous (but sparse) sunny weekends.  No matter how busy I get I make sure that I start and end the day with ME...that way there's more of me available for YOU!!
