18 weeks till my first Marathon

It is 18x weeks before the 42K marathon in Auckland and I've started my training.

I've got a goal to finish the race which is a personal achievement and it can be marked off the 101 things to do before I die.

To help me attain this, I have been reading several motivational books written by long distance runners. The New Zealand lass from New Plymouth. The American guy who can hold in one hand a box containing Cheesecake below a box of Pizza - and eat with the other hand while still running. Hard work it is but also, it still has an element of fun.

As of Wednesday 07 July, I am now into week 17. It still has the 'fun' element which Stacey keeps alive for me as I get bored easily.

I am also planning longer runs - say from Huntly township to The Base, Hamilton 30 Ks or Morrinsville to Matamata 31 Ks.

As I keep reminding myself - It is hard work with an element of fun, BUT, think of the personal achievement and the natural 'high' of saying 'I did it."

Yes the Marathon course is not to bad, just the first few Ks are the worst. I am doing the Half my first in a long time. Good Luck.

Nice one Mel!

Reading motivational books is awesome Mel, the brain visualises real and imagined experiences in very much the same way - so the more you visualise these runners and imagine yourself in their shoes, the greater your results will be!
